I bought these boots because I wanted something warm, fashionable and easy to put on while walking the dog or running errands in colder/foul/snowy/slushy weather. I tried other boots, i.e. Hunter/Sorels, and found them to be too heavy and hard on my knees when walking long-ish distances (2-4 miles). I have a pair of Bogs rain boots (that I love and receive many compliments) so I thought I'd try the Arcata. The thing that I noticed immediately is how light they are! I easily slipped them on and found them to be extremely comfortable. I've had them for a little over a month and wear them frequently. Regarding the size, I am a shoe size 9 and, depending upon the shoes, I wear can anything from an 8 1/2 to a 10 1/2 (in a running shoe) so I contacted a Bogs representative who said that I should order the size 9. Regarding sizing, this may help: From the Bogs Website: "Bogs are built on a European last which is offered in full sizes. The European last is contoured to the foot for ultra-comfort. Beginning with a roomy toe box, the last is wider through the forefoot, supportive in the arch, and narrows in the heel. This combination accommodates a greater range of widths and lengths, superseding the need for half sizes and widths." I can wear these with light or heavy socks and adjust the fit with the laces. They keep my feet warm and dry, have great traction, are comfortable and are good looking. I am very pleased.
